On June 25, 2021, Ken Webb spoke to County Officials at the Alabama Local Government Training Institute Seminar in Prattville, AL at the Marriott Capitol Hill.  A primary focus of his speech was the Roles and Responsibilities of the Chair of the County Commission in Managing/Preventing Lawsuits.

The Chair of the County Commission has an important role and responsibility in the prevention of lawsuits and should actively work to prevent future lawsuits against the County.  Other topics discussed included discussion of common suits brought in State and Federal Courts against counties, the statutory cap on damages, individual and official capacity claims, the importance of maintaining good records, common claims arising out of jails, cyber security and the threats facing Alabama Counties.  As the threat of cyber security continues to rise, it is extremely important that a County Commission or any business ensures that systems are safe and up to date.
